Six 49ers Named to All NCAA East Region Team

Currie Claims Two All-Region Nods

June 2, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - After claiming five automatic qualifying national championship bids and an expected two additional at-large spots last weekend, six student-athletes from the Charlotte 49ers outdoor track and field teams were named to the All NCAA East Region Team, the USTFCCCA announced Monday. Junior Lamarra Currie, who notched two automatic qualifying performances at the NCAA East Regional Championship at Florida State, received honors in both event areas.

The 4x100m team, made up of Lajarsha Moses, Courtney Patterson, Ebonie Cunningham and Currie, received the All-Region nod after posting a 44.55 third-place overall finish in the relay, automatically qualifying the foursome for the NCAA Division I National Championships at Drake University June 11-14. The team entered the event after a third place preliminary finish and second-place ranking in the East region prior to the meet.

Currie followed up with an automatic championship qualifying time of 11.72 (-1.6 wind) in the 100m dash for individual honors.

On the field, junior Pat Springs was recognized after finishing seventh in the long jump with a 6.02m leap. Her performance places her in the at-large pool for advancement to nationals, with the list of selected student-athletes officially being announced Tuesday afternoon. Based on the results from the four regional championships, Springs should qualify for the trip.

On the men's side, junior Adu Dentamo was named to the All Region team following his sixth-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with an 8:55.28 showing.
