With over $40 million in new facilities constructed since 1994, the Charlotte 49ers are building their future one substantial brick at a time. Unabashedly, the 49ers claim some of the best facilities in the nation.

With the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center/Dale F. Halton Arena (1996) serving as the centerpiece, the 49ers have added the Wachovia Fieldhouse (1994), the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center/Transamerica Field (1996) and the Miltimore-Wallis Athletic Academic Center (2003).

In all, that equates to over 240,000 square feet of new facilities that hones each and every aspect of the 49ers athletic program. The upgrades include new playing arenas, lockerrooms, office space, practice facilities, academic space, weight and conditioning facilities and medical training facilities.

Due to the generous support of the Charlotte corporate community, as well as numerous individual friends and fans, the 49ers now offer their student-athletes quality environments to assist with their physical training and pursuit of academic excellence.

Bringing 49ers basketball games back on-campus was the impetus behind the creation of this facility, which is so much more than a basketball arena. The center, which puts a premium on student activity, includes a food court, a game room, a state of the art weight room, recreational courts, an indoor jogging track and a climbing wall. As for the 49ers, the SAC includes administrative office space, coaches offices and reception areas, lockerrooms for the men's and women's basketball teams and volleyball team and an expansive medical training room. Of course, Halton Arena is the jewel within this crown plaza. With 9105 seats, all with chairbacks, Halton Arena epitomizes the tagline, "not a bad seat in the house." While the 49ers enjoy a noteworthy home court advantage, fans can enjoy quality athletics in a first-class facility.

An addition onto the Barnhardt Student Activity Center, the ATAC was built, primarily, to upgrade the department's academic learning center. With plenty of desk top space, computer and internet access, tutor carrels and group meeting space, the 49ers now offer their student-athletes an exquisite, modernized environment conducive to academic study.

The ATAC also includes Charles Hayward Memorial Court, as well as a new weight facility dedicated to 49ers student-athletes, offices and reception areas for the men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs, an executive meeting room, a video/theater room as well as an attractive atrium geared towards entertaining.

Wachovia Fieldhouse
The first new structure the 49ers completed served as an anchor to the D.L. Phillips Sports Complex. When built, it gave the 49ers men's and woemn's soccer, baseball and softball programs a brand new home, complete with spacious lockerrooms outfitted with signature cherry wood lockers, coaches offices convenient to their playing facilities, a hospitality room and concession area.
