The two-time defending Atlantic 10 Champion Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team, who were picked to win their third straight A-10 title in the preseason A-10 coaches poll, travels to #2 North Carolina for their season-opener, Friday, August 22 at 7 pm. Nagy Eliminated at US Amateur

Georgia's Adam Mitchell won the last three holes to eliminate 4th-seeded Corey Nagy (Charlotte, N.C./Vance H.S.), 2up, in the first round of match play at the 108th USGA US Amateur at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club, Wednesday. Nagy had qualified tied for third out of 315 participants at 3-under par through two stroke-play rounds to earn the fourth seed in the 64-player bracket.

The two-time defending Atlantic 10 champion Charlotte 49ers women’s soccer team begins practice for the 2008 season in a couple of weeks. The 49ers goalkeeping duties are in good hands this season with the return of three upperclassman goalkeepers in senior Juli Black and juniors Lauren Brown and Nicole Mercer. Brown, who is a preseason All-Atlantic 10 selection, and Black rank among the program’s all-time leaders in career goals against average.
